❓ How to Use ClipPilot

Turn any long YouTube video into viral short clips in minutes. Follow the steps below to get started.

📋 Step-by-Step Guide
Step 01

Paste a YouTube URL

Go to YouTube, find a video you want to clip, copy the URL from your browser and paste it into the box on the Dashboard.

Tip: Videos between 5–60 minutes work best. The longer the video, the more viral moments we can find.
Step 02

Pick Your Settings

Choose how many clips you want, the target platform (Shorts, Reels, TikTok) and the clip style before hitting Generate.

Platform
Shorts Reels TikTok
Number of clips
5
Tip: Start with 5 clips on your first job to keep credit usage low while you test the quality.
Step 03

Click Generate

Hit the Generate button. ClipPilot will download the video, transcribe it with AI and find the most viral moments automatically.

⚡ Generate Clips
Uses ~8 credits per job
Note: Your credits are shown in the top bar. Free accounts start with 25 credits.
Step 04

Wait for Processing

The app will show you live progress through each stage. A typical 10-minute video takes around 2–4 minutes to process.

Tip: You can close the tab and come back — your job will still be running. Check Recent Jobs in the sidebar.
Step 05

Review Your Clips

Each clip gets a Viral Score from 0–100 based on engagement hooks, speech pace, and emotional intensity. Higher = more likely to go viral.

87
🔥 VIRAL
High curiosity hook · fast pace · emotional peak detected
Tip: Click the score badge to see exactly why a clip scored that number.
Step 06

Download Your Clips

Preview each clip directly in the browser. When you're happy, click Download to save it as an MP4, ready to upload anywhere.

💬 Frequently Asked Questions
What types of videos work best?
Talking-head videos, podcasts, interviews, tutorials and vlogs work best — anything with clear speech. Videos between 5 and 60 minutes give the most clips. Music videos or content without much talking won't produce great results.
How long does processing take?
Usually 2–5 minutes for a 10-minute video. Longer videos (30–60 min) may take 5–10 minutes. Processing happens on our server so you don't need to keep the tab open — come back and check My Clips or the Recent Jobs list in the sidebar.
Why did my job fail?
The most common reasons are: (1) the video is private or age-restricted, (2) the URL was incorrect — make sure you paste the full YouTube URL, (3) the video has no clear speech to transcribe. Try a different public YouTube video to test. If it keeps failing, contact support.
Where do my clips get saved?
All your clips are saved in My Clips (sidebar). Free and Starter plans keep clips for 7 days. Pro keeps them for 14 days, Agency for 30 days. Download anything you want to keep permanently before it expires.
What is the Viral Score?
The Viral Score (0–100) is calculated by our AI based on factors like: curiosity hooks, conflict or tension, emotional intensity, speech pace, and whether a strong question or statement is made. Click the score badge on any clip to see the exact breakdown.
Can I cancel my subscription?
Yes — go to Billing in the sidebar to manage your subscription. You can cancel any time and you'll keep access until the end of your billing period. Credits don't roll over between months.
I have a question not answered here — how do I get help?
Email us at support@getclippilot.com and we'll get back to you within 24 hours.
📲 Auto-Posting to Social Media
How do I connect Facebook, Instagram and YouTube?
Go to Settings → Social Accounts. Click Connect Facebook/Instagram — this connects both at once via Meta OAuth. For YouTube, click Connect YouTube. Once connected, your pages and channels appear in the auto-post dropdown when you run a job.
How does auto-posting work?
When you run a job, tick Auto-post clips and select a page. After your clips are generated, ClipPilot queues them and posts one every 2–4 hours automatically (you choose the interval). Facebook posts as Reels, Instagram as Reels, YouTube as Shorts. You don't need to do anything — it all happens in the background.
What is TikTok auto-posting?
Connect TikTok via Settings → Social Accounts → Connect TikTok. You'll need a TikTok developer account at developers.tiktok.com. Once connected, select TikTok as a platform when running a job. Clips upload to your TikTok inbox as drafts — tap Post in the TikTok app to publish. Full auto-posting requires TikTok app review approval.
What are Long Format clips?
Tick Also create long clips when running a job. ClipPilot will additionally produce 90–300 second clips alongside your normal Reels/Shorts. Long clips post as regular Facebook feed videos and standard YouTube videos — which count toward the 4,000 watch hours needed for YouTube monetisation. Perfect for building watch time while your Shorts build subscribers.
🤖 Autopilot — Watch Channels Automatically Agency Plan
What is Autopilot mode?
Autopilot watches YouTube channels for new uploads. The moment a new video is posted, ClipPilot automatically downloads it, runs the full clip pipeline, and queues all clips to post to your connected social accounts. Go to Autopilot in the sidebar, click Add YouTube Channel and paste any channel URL.
How often does it check for new videos?
You choose — from every 6 hours to every 24 hours. The default is every 24 hours. When a new video is found, clips are processed immediately and scheduled to post at your chosen interval (e.g. every 2 hours). The card shows how many videos were detected, jobs triggered, and clips scheduled.
What does the first run do?
On the very first check, ClipPilot seeds the 5 most recent video IDs as "already known" — it does NOT process them. This prevents a flood of old content. Only videos uploaded after you add the monitor get processed automatically.
📅 Content Calendar Pro Plan
What does the Content Calendar show?
The calendar shows all your scheduled posts across every connected page and channel. Each dot on a day represents a clip queued for posting. Click a day to see which clips are scheduled and to which pages. You can filter by brand/page using the sidebar brand list.
